Madras Week Nostalgia: The Moubrays Road of 1885
We all know what TTK Road looks like today, and we all know the kind of traffic one has to wade through to reach the Music Academy end if the approach is from the SIET College or Park Sheraton Hotel side.
Well, here is how Moubrays Road looked more than a century ago – in 1885. Almost a village. You can feel the leisurely pace of life then. Is there any road like this in Chennai today, doesn’t matter if automobiles have replaced the bullock carts. I spotted a semblance of this in a couple of lanes in Jawahar Nagar and Periyar Nagar in Perambur where it is still quite another world in some parts. And thank God for that!
