Madras Week: A glimpse inside Central Jail

One interesting picture displayed at Alliance Francaise was that of a view of the inside of the Central Jail, 150 years old. Before demolition work began, people were allowed to visit and have a look.

The Central Jail in Park Town, built in the middle of the 19th century off Bodyguard Road, took the place of the Old Jail, which dates back to 1804 when it was located in one of the bastions of the North Wall that ran along Ebrahim Sahib Street, Old Jail Road and Basin Bridge Road.
